Lostheart padded into the clearing, with Ripplerain following behind. Lostheart turned around. "Hey, Ripplerain." she said. Ripplerain looked up. "Yes?" she mewed. "Could you check the borders for any loner activity? I want to make sure that the loner hasn't been here since we were gone." Ripplerain nodded. "Ok. Whatever you say." She started out of the camp. Lostheart's warm smile vanished as Ripplerain went out of the camp. She sighed. I hope that this loner isn't a threat... she thought as she padded to her den.

Skystar raced into the clearing and skidded to a stop, panting. She was glad that everyone seemed to be alright, but then she found she couldn't see Ripplerain. "Where's Ripplerain?" She asked Lostheart, keeping her voice even and calm.

Lostheart turned around. "She's out on a loner patrol. I was just going to join her." she said. Uh oh. Skystar might get mad at her for sending out Ripplerain alone. She suddenly regretted sending a young warrior like her. What was she thinking? That was so stupid!

Skystar sighed. She didn't reprimand her deputy for sending such a young warrior out alone, as she saw in Lostheart's eyes that she just realized what she had done. "Don't worry, it was a simple mistake. Any cat could have done it." Skystar meowed gently, turning around to head out. "You stay here and organize patrols. Make sure that everyone stays with a partner when outside the camp at all times. I'll go patrol with Ripplerain." Skystar followed Ripplerain's scent hurriedly, hoping nothing had happened.

Lostheart nodded, embarrassed. She looked around. Shouldn't Adderfoot be here by now? Oh well, she thought. He'll be back. Lostheart went to the center of the camp. "All right, everyone! This is not a meeting, but an announcement! On order of Skystar, everyone heading out of camp must have a partner! We have loner problems and we don't want anyone to get hurt! That is all!" Lostheart then started sending cats to different parts of the territory to check for scents. Secretly, Lostheart was worried for Ripplerain. She had a special connection with the warrior, and she didn't think it was just a mentor-apprentice connection. It seemed more like a mother-daughter connection. Lostheart was regretting more and more about her decision to send her former apprentice out alone. She hoped she wasn't hurt.

ooc// And this is my cue to enter!
bic// Adderfoot kept close to the patrol for most of the journey back. When they arrived at the camp, he immediately slunk back into his den. With the danger of a loner attacking cats weighing down on the clans, he wanted to have absolutely nothing to do with this. If Starclan had nothing to say to him on the matter, then he honestly had no idea what to do next. Hide in his den for the next couple of moons, he supposed. Like the coward he was, and always will be.
Wonderful.
Just in case, he should probably make sure that his cave was well-stocked. If there was a chance of things getting worse in the future, he would do better to be prepared now than to have to replenish his supply of herbs sometime in the uncertain future. The medicine cat glanced over his supplies, doing a quick check-over of his neatly organized supplies. Everything seemed all right, he still had plenty of horsetail, more juniper berries than he knew what to do with, lots of marigold and lavender, hopefully he wouldn't need that mint anytime soon, he still had enough feverfew to last him for a long while, no worries about the dock and fennel, dandelions were all there,-
No. Wait. The dandelions weren't all there. When did that happen? Since when had he been almost out of dandelions? He would have to go and get some more immediately. And while he was at it, it wouldn't hurt to get some more comfrey if he could find it. Maybe some more cobwebs. Adderfoot would have to go find a warrior to help him search for herbs at once.
Reluctantly, he walked back out of his den in time to hear the end of Lostheart's announcement. He waited until she finished sending out the warriors on what were probably patrols before approaching her. She looked upset, though... Perhaps bringing up the herbs could wait. "Are you okay?"

Lostheart turned around at the sound of Adderfoot's voice. She didn't quite hear what he said, but she assumed it was him asking her if she was okay. Lostheart hasn't really gotten to know Adderfoot, so she wasn't comfortable talking to him about her concerns. Sure, he was responsible. Lostheart has never seen a sick cat that Adderfoot didn't know how to deal with. Lostheart would make friends with him, but he kept to himself most of the time. She didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable, so she just let him stay alone. Lostheart really never showed her true colors to cats she didn't know. Cats she did know well-like Ripplerain and Skystar-were fine. They wouldn't criticize her for her ear. Well, Adderfoot didn't seem like the kind of cat who would criticize her ear, either.
"Oh, I'm fine. Just thinking." she said, putting on her fake smile.
Ooc: I had to read Adderfoot's whole personality section on his bio just to see how Lostheart would respond. Wow. I also forgot how to spell "choice" for a second.

ooc// Oh, sorry. :$
bic// If he was being frank, Adderfoot didn't believe Lostheart. The deputy simply didn't seem fine. However, it wasn't his place to try and claim otherwise. Lostheart probably wouldn't appreciate a cat that she barely knew trying to talk to her about this stuff. Even if she didn't mind, he was probably wrong about it anyways. Actually, he had to be wrong. She couldn't have been upset. There was no way that he could be correct, it wasn't like he knew much about her. Probably the only reason that he was talking to her right now was that Skystar trusted her enough to make her deputy. At least he could trust his own leader. That didn't mean Lostheart would like him, though. In fact, she most likely wouldn't. He should just get this errand over with already.
"Oh." Wow, great start. At least he didn't stammer. "If you are, then I need your help. Or anyone's, you don't have to do it if you don't want to..." He unconsciously shrank back from the deputy, turning his head away slightly and twitching his ears. "But I need to restock some important herbs." Dandelion and comfrey roots were important, right? Getting more of them wasn't a waste of time. No, Redleaf thought they were important, so they were. From what he had observed of Lostheart, she would be willing enough to help him get them, even if they didn't talk much. At least she presumably would leave him alone if he did something wrong. She always left him in peace before.

Lostheart looked around to see if any cats needed patrols. There was a group of cats without a patrol, so she replied, "All right. I think those cats over there would be willing to help. Skystar told me to stay here to organize patrols. What do you need?" Lostheart was relieved Adderfoot didn't try to press on the conversation about herself further. From what she had seen of him, he was a little socially awkward. But, hey, if Redleaf chose him as the next medicine cat, he had some good values. She still didn't want him getting up in her business, though. She barely knew him.

Adderfoot turned his head to look at the group Lostheart was referring to. They wouldn't be his first choice for taking with him, but he supposed he could stand them well enough. "Thank you. I just need to gather some dandelions and comfrey roots, so it shouldn't take too long." If it weren't for the loner, he would have preferred to go by himself. Someone to help carry herbs would be nice, but finding someone willing to do so wouldn't be easy.
