As he arrived back at the camp, Brownstar made a beeline for Whisperleaf's den. He would ask Fireshadow to increase border security if she didn't do so already, but he needed to consult his medicine cat. Pigeonstar had always worked to make sure that Brownstar had a healthy respect for the aging medicine cat. Honestly, even when he was young and foolish he had always liked her well enough. Even before he understood the true extent to her usefulness, he could see that she was dedicated to her work and respected her for it. Nowadays, her healing abilities and link to Starclan were an invaluable resource to him. Before he went and made any important decisions, it was best to see if Starclan had anything to say. Lightningclan was doing well, but that didn't mean they were invincible, and losing a battle to a loner would just be embarrassing. Since she had chosen to stay in the camp, she would need to be informed of the danger anyways.
He took a few steps into her den. "Whisperleaf? Are you here?"

Whisperleaf looked up when she was done putting the marigold in. "Yes, Brownstar?" she asked. "Is something wrong?" Brownstar went to her a lot for advice from Starclan, but this seemed urgent. She could tell by the look in his eyes. Being old has its advantages. You could tell a lot about your clanmates just by seeing them.It must be something about the gathering, she thought.

She was in the camp. Good. Brownstar wasn't sure if he would've handled Whisperleaf being gone very well. "Yes. Something is very wrong." Making his way over to her, he continued on. "Well, maybe. But a loner attacked Forestclan on the way to the gathering, and Skyclan has reported suspicious activity on their territory. For sure I'm gonna increase border patrols to keep intruders out in the future and stop this threat now, but I'm wondering if the damage has already been done after those loners went on our territory." He should never have allowed his warriors to let them leave so easily! His tail lashed just thinking about it. "But I was wondering if you have heard anything at all from Starclan lately?" Now he had to bother his medicine cat in hopes of fixing things. Stupid.

"Not really," Whisperleaf said. "Although with that kind of news, there might be a prophecy involved. I'll try to see if Starclan has anything to say about these loners." Wow. Loners weren't usually a problem. Whisperleaf felt a little ashamed that she hasn't picked up any prophecies from the heavenly clan. She got over it quickly. It wasn't her fault Starclan was waiting for the right time to tell her about this. Maybe the other medicine cats will have something. She made a mental note to ask about that during the half-moon meeting.

"Thank you," Brownstar dipped his head to Whisperleaf. "Don't worry, though, it may turn out to be some other clan's problem." Hopefully, he didn't say. "Anyways, for the moment I'm not going to panic over this, but just in case I want to make sure that no one that's going to get attacked is going out alone. Sorry, but that includes you. Even if you're still capable of doing your job I want to make sure that you're not getting in trouble. Please, if you need to leave the camp for any reason, take a warrior with you. They don't have to travel to the Moonfield with you, but I'd feel better if they at least escorted you to the border." Whisperleaf was aging. There was no dodging around this fact. Even though she may not be the fondest of the other clan members, there was simply no way that she could fend off a healthy loner with them. If she had taken an apprentice Brownstar would have felt a bit better about allowing her to do what she wanted, since Lightningclan didn't appear to be at a high amount of risk for the moment, but at the moment Whisperleaf did not have a replacement ready should something happen to her. They would not be as desperate as Fireclan was when they let that loner into their clan. He would not bring dishonor onto his clan if he could help it.

Whisperleaf nodded. "Whatever you say, Brownstar. I'll be careful." Whisperleaf wasn't mad at the leader for containing her freedom. She was old, and with loners that could fend off Sandstar and her patrol, she wouldn't stand a chance. Whisperleaf also didn't have an apprentice, so if she died...well, that would be a problem. Either she would have to take an apprentice, or these loners would have to be disposed of. Probably both.

"I trust that you will." That made him feel better. Now all he had to worry about was making sure that she had adequate protection. If Whisperleaf was willing to cooperate, that shouldn't be too hard. Her safety should probably be one of the clan's top priorities, considering how they couldn't afford to lose her. Of all the ways that his clan could be weakened, that was quite possibly the worst. Actually, while he was at it, he might as well talk to her about the final thing on his mind. "One more thing before I go, though. I'm not saying that you need to retire or anything, but have you thought about taking on an apprentice?"

Whisperleaf nodded. "Yes, I have. I'm not sure who should be it, though. I'll think about it." She dipped her head. "Thank you for talking with me, Brownstar. I'll do what I can." She laid down to think about who her apprentice should be.
Ooc: So I guess someone will need to make a character for medicine cat apprentice, or Flamekit or Kestrelkit will be it. If we have to make a character, personally, I don't want to do it. It would be more fun if someone else were the apprentice.

"I'd suggest talking to Nightflower's kits, see if any of them are interested if you don't have someone in mind. Or any of the kits in the nursery, really. I'll leave you to it, though." Well, that was all that he needed to talk about. Time to go and try to find Fireshadow.
With that plan in mind, he left Whisperleaf's den and allowed her to think in peace.

(( Sorry to break in on the roleplaying and all that, but I read most of the threads even if I dont roleplay in them, and I was thinking maybe I could do some advertising. Set up a link, do some more posting on different roleplay sites. I'll think about what I can do.

Whisperleaf was still thinking when she saw the half moon in the sky. Time for the half moon meeting... she thought. She was about to pad out of the camp when she remembered Brownstar's orders. She asked a random warrior to escort her to the border. He accepted and they headed off. When they got to the border, she went alone. Maybe the other medicine cats will help me with my apprentice dilemma. she thought as she approached.
