Barknose slept in his den, shifting uneasily. He has having a dream. He was in total darkness, not knowing where he was. And then, he heard Snowtail. "Barknose?! Barknose!" she cried. "Snowtail!" he called back. Barknose tried to find her in the darkness, but she was nowhere to be seen. He ran blindly to find his lost mate, but soon he realized it was no use. He collapsed, still crying "Snowtail...snowtail..." Barknose awoke saying her name.

Eagleclaw carefully selected a thrush from the fresh-kill pile. She had just returned from a rather successful hunting patrol, although the season normally meant that there was even less prey around than usual. Although she would probably end up going hungry tonight since she would most likely give her brother her share if she even took one, there was more than enough to feed the queens and elders. As usual, another warrior was taking the biggest piece of prey to the nursery for the queens to share, and she had offered to bring food to the elders. Everything they had caught was rather thin, but she deemed the thrush suitable enough.
She held it carefully in her jaws as she walked to the elders' den. Damaging it was quite possibly one of the most disrespectful things she could do, and if Eagleclaw wasn't respectful she might as well allow herself to be taken by the predatory birds for all the good she would do for her clan. After she was done with this she would move the pile to a safer location than the middle of the camp if no one else already did so. By then most of the clan would probably have taken their shares, and everyone else would know where to find it. There was no use attracting the birds to their camp, after all. With that thought in mind, she quickened her pace until she reached the den. Respectfully bowing her head and keeping her tail low, she entered. Noticing that Barknose was awake, she gently placed the thrush next to him and stepped back. "I brought you food."
ooc// Current headcanon for Fireclan: Since the volcano rarely erupts and their main source of food is birds, Fireclan's biggest problems are a lack of prey on ther territory and the predatory birds that mainly fly over Fireclan territory. Due to this, after a hunt prey will be left in the open for only a few minutes before being taken somewhere else, and cats rarely leave the camp by themselves, especially kits, elders, apprentices, queens, and some of the smaller warriors. Just some thoughts to add some substance to this post, they don't have to mean anything.

Barknose twitched his tail, confused from the dream. "Thank you," he muttered. He dragged the thrush to him with his paw, still lying down. "Will you leave now? I need some quiet time." He turned the other way and sighed in sadness. Barknose missed Snowtail. Plain and simple. He would do anything to get her back.

If she was being honest with herself, there was no way that Eagleclaw would go away even after the elder's dismissal. After all, Swanheart was gone and there weren't many cats left around the camp. Barknose was her only chance for company. She'd rather face his possible wrath than deal with being alone.
Not that she'd ever admit that. It was too shameful.
Instead, she told herself that she was staying because he looked upset. If she did have someone to go talk to, she probably would have stayed for the same reason anyways. The elders should not be upset. They had earned a happy retirement.
Thus having decided on her motives, she took a tentative half step forwards. "Are you sure? You look upset..." she asked quietly. "Is there anything I can do?"

Ooc: I just realized. Fireclan lives near a volcano, so there wouldn't be any trees nearby for Barknose to blend in with. Wow. I'm so stupid. I just wanted some more cats in Fireclan.
Barknose sighed. "It's something personal. You wouldn't understand." He turned back around. "Let's just say Starclan gave me a not so pleasant dream."

ooc// Actually, Fireclan has a grove of trees on the edges of their territory that have survived; they keep their camp near/in it. I still have the descriptions Sky posted saved, and I can post them for proof if you want. So nah, you're good.
bic// "Are you sure?" Eagleclaw took another few steps forward, trying to keep view of his face. "I mean, yeah I probably won't understand, but Starclan wouldn't just send bad dreams, would they?" She frowned a bit and tilted her head in thought. "Maybe it means something! What if Starclan's trying to tell you something?" That had to be it! Starclan wouldn't just give a cat dreams unless they really needed to hear a message, right? Right, she told herself.

Ooc: Oh, ok.
Ic: Barknose thought about it for a second. What would Starclan be trying to tell him with that kind of dream? He frowned. "I'm not sure. Maybe we could ask Sage when he comes back. Medicine cats are good at that kind of thing, right?"

Ooc: Perfect timing for me. :3 Ic: Sage padded into camp. He didn't feel like worrying about this loner for the moment, instead choosing to pick a few herbs from his garden and take his time coming back, as if daring the loner to try and hurt him. The muscular cat looked satisfied as he put his herbs in his den and padded to the freshkill pile to get something to eat. "All this news and ghost stuff makes me starving." He thought. As he was picking up a bird from the pile and starting to move it out of the way, he heard his name being spoken in the elder's den. Finishing up what he was doing, he poked his head into the elder's den. "Someone say my name?" He asked, smiling.

When Sage entered, Barknose got up and padded over to him. "Starclan gave me a dream, and we don't know what it means. Could you help us?" he asked. The medicine cat was very trustworthy, and Barknose knew Sage wouldn't let his secret out. Besides, Starclan might be telling him something. This was news.

Sage nodded and sat down. "Of course. Tell me what happened."
Ooc: Do you want it to actually mean anything?

Ooc: Barknose can't get over Snowtail, and it might drive him insane. Starclan is trying to tell him to move on.
Barknose sighed. "Well, I was in total darkness. I don't think I was anywhere specific, but then I heard my..." his voice faltered. "...mate. She was calling out to me, but I couldn't tell from what direction. I tried to find her, but again, it was in total darkness. I couldn't find her, so I gave up and collasped. Then I woke up." He almost teared up at the thought of the dream.

"You were looking for your mate, but then you had to give up... Hmm...' Sage mused, thinking. "I think Starclan may be trying to tell you that it's tiem to stop dwelling in the past. Starclan is saying you need to move on from Snowtail, Barknose." Sage said this with an unusally gentle tone, her rough manner now gone.

Barknose clenched up. Give up Snowtail?! She was everything to him! She was his mate! She was the only reason he went on! She...was with Starclan. He sighed. "Ok," he sheepishly said. "Thank you, Sage. You can go now." Love is letting go as well as staying... he thought. Barknose turned around. "I'm sorry, Snowtail. I shouldn't have been that selfish." he whispered, hoping that his dead mate could hear him. "It's just...you were perfect for me...and then you were gone. Please forgive me." As he fell back asleep, he could have sworn he heard gentle laughter.

Eagleclaw had remained silent the entire time, content to allow the two to have their conversation. It was hardly her business, although she couldn't help but listen in. It was quite amazing how Sage managed to interpret that dream so easily. Oh, but poor Barknose! She would have liked to keep him company, but it appeared that he was already asleep. Instead, she might as well talk to Sage. The molly didn't trust him much, but Swanheart had been insisting that she try and get along with him. There was no time like the present if he didn't have anything that he needed to be doing. "How did you interpret that so easily?" she asked quietly, prepared to follow him if and when he left. Aside from her other motives, Eagleclaw was genuinely curious as to how he had figured out the dream's meaning. As far as she could remember, the previous medicine cat didn't do things like that. Unless she just never noticed it happening...
